Associate Professor Dr. Chin Yit Siew, PhD
Associate Professor Dr. Chin Yit Siew is the Head of Community Nutrition Unit, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and as one of the main researchers of the Research Centre of Excellence Nutrition and Non-Communicable Chronic Disease (RCOE-NNCD), in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Her field of specialization in community nutrition has prompted research interests that include child and adolescent nutrition and body composition, nutrition education and promotion, behavioral nutrition, body image, disordered eating and obesity, and early nutrition and allergic diseases. Her research interests are not limited to general population but also among marginalized population such as children living in welfare homes, vegetarians, indigenous children and mothers, as well as refugee children and mothers. To date, she led 14 research projects that were supported by both private and public funding, with various publications, which have more than 50 scientific citation-indexed journal articles, intervention modules and books. She has supervised more than 20 graduate students in nutrition field. She is the Associate Editor of BMC Public Health and Malaysian Journal of Nutrition. As a community nutritionist, she has been actively organizing various nutrition and health promotion programs in different community settings. She is the Management Team Lead of NSM Nutrition Roadshows 2.0, and she has involved in various research-driven community programs, such as Healthy Kids Program, Program Cara Hidup Sihat, Good Nutrition – Key to Healthy Children Program, Eat Right to Play Right Program. She is the Council Member of both Nutrition Society Malaysia (NSM) and Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity (MASO).
